A message from the owner Rachel Hill
My name is Rachel Hill and I am the owner and Director of Hillside Childcare Ltd.
As a Mummy to four boys, I truly understand the difficulties in managing a home/work balance. It is one of the hardest parts of my job! I also understand the difficulties a parent faces when leaving their baby for the first time and returning to work. It is one of my aims to ensure that Hillside Childcare make that as easy as possible for you.
I run the nurseries and Out of School Club (OOSC) as a Mummy. We have high standards to adhere to, planning and a high quality curriculum in place, but first and foremost, our settings are child led. The most important thing to me, is that our children, babies and young people are safe, listened to and most importantly are having lots of fun!
I opened my first nursery, in March 2007. I worked hands on with the children, as well as being the manager, cook and cleaner!! Things have changed a lot since then, however our ethos remains the same. We have an open doors policy and pride ourselves on being a very friendly and homely local nursery. We are here for the whole family unit, because if you are happy with our services, then your child will be too.
I look forward to meeting you at one of our settings and welcoming you into the Hillside family.
Hillside Childcare Ltd is a group of private, family run childcare facilities based in West Yorkshire. We have three day nurseries in Castleford, Altofts and Normanton.
We also own two Out of School clubs, including Ofsted rated “Outstanding” Altofts OOSC & Early Years Centre, which provides before & after school care and holiday clubs for children in the local area.
We offer all-inclusive childcare facilities that caters for children from birth to 5, as well as Holiday and After School clubs for school age children.
All our settings have CCTV both indoors and out in operation. We also have a biometric security system in place to ensure that your little ones are always safe whilst in our care.
Our nurseries are open Monday to Friday for 51 weeks of the year. We are closed on Bank Holidays and over the Christmas period.
Early Years Foundation Stage
Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, a framework set out by the Department of Education, which recognises the overall nature of development and learning of children from birth to 5 years old.
There is an emphasis on children learning through interaction with people and exploring the world around them. EYFS identifies the individuality, efforts and achievements of children and recognises that learning and development take place during each different activity, encouraging them to be lifelong learners and allowing them to develop to their full potential.
Our day care nurseries offer a wide variety of experiences, combining play with education, so that your child can develop emotionally, socially, intellectually and physically.
Activities are planned for all age groups to ensure a flexible and balanced curriculum with a combination of busy and quiet activities, indoor and outdoor play.
Our Childcare Approach
At Hillside we offer a homely environment that encourages a relaxed transition from family to nursery life and key worker staff are there to support each stage of a child’s development on their journey to school life. We take play very seriously. We believe that if the activities on offer are of a high standard and quality, then the learning will be greater and the outcomes for our children better.
We understand how important the first five years of a child’s life are and we are committed to providing a safe and motivating environment in which your child can develop and grow at their own pace. We provide high quality play experiences for our children and put a strong emphasis on healthy living and outdoor play. Children are listened to and given the time they need to explore and learn from their own experiences, thus enabling them to reach their full potential. During their time with us, our children and babies are encouraged to be themselves and play play play!
Activities on offer are of a very high standard and are often shared amongst the Outstanding Nurseries Group and Early excellence. We enjoy giving children the best play experiences because when a child is enjoying themselves, the learning outcomes are better.
Quality Care for All
We’re proud to look after a number of children with special needs at our settings and pride ourselves on being a truly inclusive setting where all children and their families are valued and treated fairly and as individuals. Each setting has a dedicated SENCO who supports our families, children and staff to ensure we are giving the best possible care.
We look after a number of children with serious food allergies, working with them, their families and our cooks to ensure the food we provide is safe, and making adjustments to menus where needed to ensure our children feel included.
On going training and development are high on our agenda and we regularly access relevant training at both a local and national level to ensure that we are up to date with current guidance and legislation.
Our settings close for one day each year, and our teams come together to share best practice, cascade any training attended and to also work on our nursery development plan, which is part of our constant strive for improvement.
Key Workers and children’s Learning Journeys
All our children have an online learning journey which tracks their learning and development in line with the EYFS. You can access this freely from your devices using a secure login personal to you. We value your input into your childs records and you are encouraged to upload information from home. When your child is ready to move onto their school career, these make amazing keepsakes. Your child will be allocated a key worker who will be responsible for putting your child’s learning journey together and also is your first contact if you have any worries or concerns or indeed comments and compliments.
Your child’s key worker wherever possible will support your child in all areas of his/her nursery day, i.e., sleep time, mealtime, changing / toilet time and with stories, singing and focused activities.
You will have the opportunity to meet with your child’s key worker at our parent consultation evenings.
We believe that one of the most important factors of caring for your child is communication and working with parents as partners. We believe that a child’s first and most significant educator is their parents.
We maintain strong links with parents and make a record of your childs day with us on their learning journey. You can access this on line using your phone or other device such as a tablet or laptop. Parents/carers have a hectic schedule when dropping off and collecting their child and so this is a great way of keeping in touch.
We have regular newsletters to keep you updated on nursery news and also parents evenings to enable you to come into nursery and discuss your child’s progress. In addition to this there are parent’s notice boards in all our rooms displaying useful information.
